My name is Rachel. I’m a wife and a mom of two. I have a master’s in counseling from Seminary and worked with at-risk and troubled children and teens for almost ten years. I worked in psychiatric hospitals for children between ages four and seventeen, court room settings and school settings. I’m the daughter of an American and an immigrant from Portugal.
I gave my heart to Jesus when I was five, but I didn’t get serious with walking with Him until I was 21, my last semester in college. I was actually getting ready to go into the military, but during that semester, I heard a sermon that challenged us to go on a media fast. I decided that I would give up all movies, magazines, tv shows and only listen to praise and worship music for 30 days. This was one of the first major milestones in my walk with God that took me from being a broken kid with no direction to being able to hear from God as I approached the first major decision as a young adult facing the world for the first time. It was a foundational step in tuning out the world that keeps us distracted from the desires of God’s heart for our lives, keeping us from what God has destined us to become.
The journey has been life changing, heart-changing and has even healed relationships within my family that I never thought were possible. We serve a loving, merciful and mighty God and my goal is point you to glimmers of God’s heart that He’s shown me.
